The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change started functioning since the year 1985. The Ministry plans, promotes, co-ordinates and oversees environmental, ecological, forestry and wildlife programmes. Its main activities include protection of the environment; conservation of existing forest, wildlife, aquatic bodies and water resources.
