Floods and flash floods are usually the result of tropical storms and cyclones in the monsoon period and India faces many floods every year. About 1,3% of the population is exposed to floods directly, which equals near 16 million people every time. Ranking it second place on number of people exposed to flooding in the world. Generally, floods affect many people every time and also in the case of India it is second only to drought when it comes to most impacting disaster. Concerning economic damages, it is the most impacting disaster in the country. Looking at the number, floods do not seem to take many lives compared to other past disasters.2 The whole country is prone to flooding. Areas most at risk are the states of Gujarat in the west, the eastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur and West Bengal, as well as the northern states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Many of these floods are due to the flooding of the rivers in these states, such as the Ganges and coastal areas, especially on the north-east coast.3 Rainy season is from May to November, flood risk is highest from June to October
